The FurnCIRCLE-Experts Validation Workshop brought together 20 circular economy experts to refine key resources aimed at supporting the furniture sector’s transition towards circularity. The event focused on validating the industry guide, self-assessment tool, and KSC Needs Report, ensuring they effectively address the sector’s knowledge, skills, and competency (KSC) gaps. Experts also provided feedback on policy recommendations designed to enhance workforce skills and regulatory alignment.

The workshop began with a presentation of the FurnCIRCLE Guide and Self-Assessment Tool, developed to help businesses navigate circular economy principles. The guide provides practical insights into best practices, while the self-assessment tool enables companies to evaluate their readiness for circularity by identifying strengths and areas for improvement.

Experts reviewed these resources, discussing their usability and applicability across different business models. Their feedback will ensure the guide provides clear, actionable recommendations and that the self-assessment tool effectively supports companies in measuring progress toward circular economy goals.

Following this, participants examined the KSC Needs Report, which maps out the essential skills and competencies required for a circular furniture industry. The discussion highlighted key training gaps, the importance of integrating circular economy topics into vocational education, and the role of industry-academic partnerships in upskilling the workforce. Experts emphasized that addressing these gaps is crucial for ensuring businesses can meet new regulatory and market demands.

In the final session, experts assessed policy recommendations aimed at fostering a skilled workforce and supporting circular innovation. Proposed measures included strengthening collaboration between industry and education providers, expanding access to specialized training programs, and encouraging policy incentives for companies investing in circular practices. Participants’ feedback will help refine these recommendations before they are finalized.

The insights gathered during the workshop will inform the final versions of the industry Guide, KSC Needs Report, and policy recommendations ensuring they serve as effective resources for businesses transitioning to circularity.

The FurnCIRCLE initiative continues to promote systemic changes that will drive the sector toward greater sustainability and resilience. Stay tuned for the publication of the finalized materials and further updates on the project!
